Open doors to the world 

 

Since 1998, the University of Blumenau (FURB) has effectively and continuously established various agreements with Higher Education Institutions in Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Seeking to promote qualification and updating of knowledge, the University develops works in cooperation with foreign institutions through an intense exchange program of students, professors, and technical-administrative staff from the most diverse areas. 
 

Main activities

 

  • Promote intercultural exchange and assistance.
  • Reception and accompaniment of foreign students and professors.
  • Cooperation in research and development (R&D).
  • Establish cooperation agreements with universities abroad.
  • Disseminate information about courses, events, scholarships, and exchange programs of foreign institutions.

 

The University

 
The University of Blumenau (FURB) was created in 1964 from a community movement so that young people could have access to Higher Education in the region. FURB has developed several courses in all knowledge areas at the most diverse levels, Undergraduate, Research, Extension Activities and Culture, Sequential and Specializations Courses, Master's, Doctorate, Languages Courses, and High School.
 

The City

 
Blumenau was founded in 1850. The city has many European characteristics, enchanting visitors from Brazil and abroad for its architecture, gastronomy, nature, industries, and parties. Strategically located near the most important cities of Mercosur and the port structure of the State of Santa Catarina, the city is prominent in several sectors of the economy. Among the main ones are the Textile market and Information Technology (IT).

Academic Exchange of Students

 

Partner Universities


All exchange students who come to study at FURB under an agreement with their home university are not required to pay tuition fees. FURB offers opportunities for study, research, or academic internship in companies in the region, when available, for one semester or one year.

 

Free Mover

 

Students from universities not covered by an agreement with FURB can apply for academic exchange as a Free Mover and pay tuition fees.

Application Deadline (Partner University and Free Mover)

 

1st semester – Summer
From February to July*.
Registrations accepted up to 30th October.

2nd semester – Winter
From August* to December.
Registrations accepted up to 30th April.

*Dates subject to change


Documents Required

• Completed Application Form;
• Recent personal photograph;
• Oficial Academic Transcript;
• Copy of the Passport (identification page with the number of the document and photograph.)

After receiving the Letter of Acceptance, the exchange student must apply for VITEM IV Student Visa. (See the instructions on the website of the Brazilian Consulate of your country).


Courses/Subjects in English

At FURB, all courses are in the Portuguese language. However, the language of instruction of some subjects is in English.


Portuguese for Foreigners

Portuguese for foreigners’ classes are tuition-free for all exchange students. Indicate your intention to take the course when filling out the Application Form.
